What is Islam?

Before we examine Islam or any other religion we need to set forth the presuppositions that will guide our discussion.

1.   Religion is not an issue of personal preference such as what flavor of ice cream you like.
2.   Personal preferences are subjective and relative and are not under the categories of either truth or morals.
3.   All religions make truth claims and moral judgmentsabout god, man and the world around them.
4.   Thus all religions are under the objective categories oftruth and morals.
5.   Thus all religions are either true or false, good or evil.
6.   All religions must pass the tests of truth and morals.
7.   All religions are not the same in their beliefs.
8.   All religions do not worship the same god under different names.
9.   All religions do not believe in or worship a god or goddess.
10. All religions fall under the following categories:
  1. Unexamined faith: Your religion is a matter of geography and family heritage. You were born into a religion and you will die in it without ever examining it.
  2. Convenient faith: You stay in a religion because it is convenient in terms of family, wealth, business, education, social status, and political climate.
  3. Coerced faith: You are forced to convert to a religion under the threat of death to you and your family.
  4. Corrupt faith: You sell yourself for money, sexual pleasures/perversions, a job, etc.
  5. Chosen faith: You choose what to believe on the basis of good and sufficient reasons regardless of what it may cost you.

Our Central Thesis:

Islam is not exempt from the same standards of truth and morals by which all religions are judged. No amount of threats of violence or crass promises of money and sex can exempt Muslims from having to prove their religion to be true or good.

Any religion that condemns the asking of questions has something to hide.

Allah in the Qur’an (Surah 5:101-103) warns:

101. O ye who believe! Ask not questions about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you
102. Some people before you did ask such questions, and on that account lost their faith.

The famous Muslim commentator, Maududi, comments:

The Holy Prophet himself forbade people to ask
questions…so do not pry into such things.
The Meaning of the Qur’an, Maududi, III:76-77)

The Hadith is the “Second Inspiration” and it states:

The Prophet was asked about things which he
did not like and when the questioner insisted,
the Prophet got angry.”     Bukhari 1:92
The Prophet got angry and his cheeks or
his face became angry.   Bukhari 1:91
Allah has hated you…[for] asking too many
questions.  Bukhari 2:555; 3:591

NOTE: Islam forbids and even punishes the asking of questions. I have had my life threatened and endured one murder attempt for asking questions about the pre-Islamic origins of Allah and the teachings and rituals of Islam.

In Surah 25::4-5 the Qur’an, states,

But the unbelievers say, “This is nothing but a lie which he has forged, and others have helped him do it...tales of the ancients, which he has caused to be written, and they are dictated before him morning and evening.

The people of Muhammad’s day rejected the Qur’an as a collections of old wives’ tales, myths, and legends that are told to children to amuse them. But Muhammad takes them seriously and puts them into the Qur’an!

Yusuf Ali, the greatest of the translators of the Qur’an paraphrases the infidels as saying,
We have heard such things before: they are prettytales which have come down from ancient times:they are good for amusement, but who takes them seriously?  (fn: 3057)

The reason WHY questions about the pre-Islamic origins of Islam are so dangerous is that Islam claims that the Qur’an was written in heaven by Allah and has no earthly origins at all. Islam has NO historical sources. Maududi comments:

Apparently, this is a weighty argument. For there can be no greater proof of the “fraud”of Prophethood than to specific its sources.
Maududi 3:178-179

The Three Main Points of Our Lecture

There are several fundamental principles that will guide our analysis of the origin, nature, and authorship of Allah, Muhammad, and the Qur’an.

1.  The Allah of faith is not the Allah of history.
2.  The Muhammad of faith is not the Muhammad of history.
3.  The Qur’an of faith is not the Qur’an of history.

Islamic Scholars today do not rely on the myths and legends told by Muslim clerics but on archeology and historical research. There is no concrete evidence that the “Muhammad” of Islamic theology ever existed.

As the Arab armies conquered country after country, they found many different religions: Arab animism, paganism, witchcraft, and magic, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, etc.

The Arab rulers created the myth of Muhammad in order to make a new religion to rule over all the previous religions. They hoped Muhammad would be accepted by pagans, Jews and Christians. But the ruse did not work.

Question: If Muhammad ran around conquering most of the Middle East, how come no Christian or Jew or anyone else mentioned him in the literature of those days? There are no coins or stone reliefs or other physical evidence of his rule.

1. Allah is the one true God.

Allah was the pre-Islamic moon god and one of 360 gods worshipped at the Kabah.

2. The 5 Pillars of Islam were Revealed from Heaven.

4 of the 5 “Pillars” were rituals of ancient Moon-god religion.

3. The name “Allah” is in the Bible: “Allah-lu-jah!”

Allah is not in the Bible: Alle-lu-jah= praise to Jah (YHWH) (Heb)

4. The attributes of Allah are true.

Allah is a god of deceit (Surah 3:54).

5. The Trinity is the Father (Allah), the Son (Jesus), and the mother (Mary):

The Trinity is the Father, the Son The Holy Spirit.

6. The Trinity is three gods.

The Trinity is one God in three persons.

7. Jesus is not the Son of God.

Jesus is the Son of God.

8. Jesus is not divine.

Jesus is both God and man.

9. Jesus was not crucified on the cross.

Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

Muhammad was a descendent of Abraham because Ishmael was the  Father of the Arab race.

Ishmael was not the Father of the Arabs. They descended from Ham, not Shem.

He was the prophet predicted in Deut. 18:15.

He was not a Jew and Jesus was the Prophet predicted in Deut. 18:15.

He became a mighty warrior and conquered Arabia and surroundingcountries.

There is no historical evidence that he existed in that century. The first reference to him is 150 yrs. after his death.

His second miracle was cutting the Moon in half.

Muhammad believed the sun and the moon were the size of a basketball.

The Qur’an

1. Muhammad put together the Qur'an

He died before it appeared. His followers made many different Qur'ans.

2. There is only one Qur’an.

There were so many conflicting Qurans. Caliph Uthman chose the one that helped him politically and burned the others. But the oldest Qur'an is not the same one today. The Shiites claims that up to 25% of the Sunni Qur'an was created to fight against them.

3. The original Qur’an is in a museum in Turkey.

False. Where? Nowhere!

 4. The Qur’an today is the exact same text as the original. There are no variant readings.

There are thousands of variant readings. The Hadiths state that some of the Qur’an was lost and some was false, ex. “The “Satanic Verses” and the doctrine of abrogation.

5. It is 100% Arabic

False. It has words from other languages.

 6. It was written in heaven, on a stone tablet

Its earthly sources have been documented.

7. It is impossible to translate.

It has been translated.

8. Nothing like it can be written

It has been done many times.

9. It is perfect in Arabic grammar and vocabulary.

It has many errors in Arabic.

10. It is perfect in science.

It has many scientific errors. Ex Sun going down into a muddy pond.

11. It is perfect in history.

It has many historical errors. Ex. The “Samaritan” before Samaria existed; mother of Jesus was sister of Aaron; Haman, etc.

12. It has no myths or legends.

It has hundreds of them. Ex. The She-Camel, Jews becoming monkeys, etc.

13. It has perfect morals.

No, it has many immoral stories and  teachings, ex. Muhammad taking his daughter-in-law to be his wife.

14. It is 100% the Words of Allah. No human prayers, sermons, history theology, etc.

It has a prayer in Surah 1, and passages directed to Allah.

15. It is consistent with the original Bibles of the Jews and Christians.

It contradicts those Bibles many times.

16. It does not contradict the pre-Islamic Bible.

It does so many times.

17. When it conflicts the Bible, it has the priority.

No. The older judges the newer.  The already established judges the newer claims.  Muhammad appealed to the Bible.

18. It described embryos and DNA before science discovered them.

No, it does not do so. See Dr. Campbell.

19. The Qur’an is perfect in structure.

No, it is a jumble of mass confusion and repetition.

20. The Qur’an is 100% complete.

It was recorded on palm leaves that were later eaten, tree bark that crumbled, cloth that rotted away, bones that were lost, and the hearts of men who died before recording it.

21. It has no contradictions.

It has many.  In Surah 41:9f, the Creation took 8 days. But in Surah 7:51 it took 6 days. Which one is right?

22. It has no false doctrine.

It denies the Trinity; that Jesus is the Son of God; that He died on the cross, that He is the Savior, etc. It denies man is born a sinner.

23. The Qur’an created Islam.

No. Islam created the Qur'an

24. It existed in Muhammad’s day.

No. It did not appear until over a 150 years after Muhammad.

25. It has one author: Allah.

No, it is a “scissor and paste” patchwork of many different authors from different lands. Muhammad had nothing to do with it. It was created by the Caliphs to rule an empire that had many different religions.  That is why the Qur’an has stories from all ancient Middle Eastern religions.

26. Muhammad created Islam.

No. Islam created the myth of Muhammad. “Muhammad” is a title like Buddha. There is no hard evidence of his existence until 150 years after his supposed death.

27. The Qur’an guided the early Muslims.

No Qur’ans have been found from the first 150 yrs. No manuscripts, coins, rock inscriptions, references by contemporaries, etc.

28. It elevates women.

No, it makes men the “managers” of women, husbands can beat their wives, etc.

29. It reveals the way to Paradise.

No. it offers no forgiveness, no atonement, no intercessor, no savior, no assurance of salvation,  etc.

30. Sharia laws produce a just Society

No. They only produce death, tyranny, slavery, violence, and hatred.

Islam has failed all the tests of truth and morals. It is not only a false religion but a violent religion that commands its followers to murder non-Muslims in Jihads of war and terrorism.
